Mo Zell has been named interim dean of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s School of Architecture and Urban Planning (SARUP).

Interim Dean Mo Zell has served SARUP since 2008, including as senior associate dean, associate dean, chair of the architecture department and professor. Zell has led and supported projects including the school’s successful externship program, the Mobile Design Box pop-up gallery, SuperJury and Women In Design. Most recently, Zell headed the launch of SARUP’s new Design + Construction Institute. She has also been recognized as a woman of influence in the mentor category by the Milwaukee Business Journal.

“The School of Architecture and Urban Planning will continue to thrive under the leadership of Interim Dean Mo Zell,” said Interim Provost Scott Gronert. “In addition to developing and mentoring students into accomplished professionals, Zell and the school’s faculty are dedicated to addressing the most pressing issues facing our local community, including affordable housing and workforce development.”

Said Zell: “As I transition to the role of interim dean, I’m most excited to continue the crucial work of serving as a connector for the School of Architecture and Urban Planning.

“Our existing collaborations with local and national firms, externship sites and the Milwaukee community are some of our strongest assets,” Zell said. “I will maintain and strengthen those relationships, along with continuing to position SARUP as a leader with the new Design + Construction Institute.”
