September 25, 2020 @ 1:30 PM CT – Urban Edge Series – Herbert Dreiseitl and Bettina Dreiseitl-Wanschura: River System Case Studies

Herbert Dreiseitl and urban planner and wife Bettina Dreiseitl- Wanschura, will discuss their experiences with regional scale river restoration projects in the Rhur region of Germany and elsewhere.

“From Britain to the Czech Republic, European nations have been restoring rivers to their natural state — taking down dams, removing levees, and reviving floodplains. For a continent that long viewed rivers as little more than shipping canals and sewers, it is a striking change.” – Fred Pearce • YaleEnvironment360. December 10, 2013.

September 25, 2020 @ 3 PM CT – On Edges – A Conversation with Paola Aguirre from Borderless Studio

September 25, 2020 @ 3:30 PM CT – Let’s Not Go Back to Normal with Trudy Watt
Please join us this academic year for a series of online monthly conversations inspired by Sonya Renee Taylor’s statement that proposes: “Let’s not go back to normal.” Taylor said:

“We will not go back to normal. Normal never was. Our pre-corona existence was not normal other than we normalized greed, inequity, exhaustion, depletion, extraction, disconnection, confusion, rage, hoarding, hate and lack. We should not long to return, my friends. We are being given the opportunity to stitch a new garment. One that fits all of humanity and nature.”

The discussion group is informal – more like a reading club than a lecture series. Each month, we will share a small set of related readings and/or media to be read/viewed in advance. Please sign up here to be included on the mailing list for readings and announcements related to this series.
