Microwaves & Refrigerators

Due to concerns related to consumption of energy and fire safety, microwaves and refrigerators are well-regulated within University Housing, with guidelines that vary depending on the building the student is assigned to. What follows is a brief overview for each building.

Cambridge Commons

Refrigerators: Full-size energy-efficient refrigerators are provided in each suite. Residents may also choose to rent a combination fridge-freezer-microwave (see below) or bring their own minifridge (size not to exceed 4 cu. feet, or exterior dimensions of 36″ tall, 26″ wide, 26″ deep) for their bedroom.

Microwaves: Cambridge Commons Upgrade Suites have a microwave provided as part of the standard kitchen appliances. Cambridge Commons Standard Suites may also bring their own microwave (700W or less), rent a refrigerator-freezer-microwave combo (see below), or use the community kitchen that is available in the center of each floor (community kitchen includes an oven, stove, microwave, and toaster).

Kenilworth Square Apartments

Refrigerators: Full-size refrigerators are provided in each apartment. However, residents may also choose to bring their own minifridge (size not to exceed 4 cu. feet, or exterior dimensions of 36″ tall, 26″ wide, 26″ deep) or rent a combination refrigerator-freezer-microwave for their bedroom (see below).

Microwaves: Kenilworth Square Apartments have a microwave provided as part of the standard kitchen appliances. Residents may also choose to rent a combination refrigerator-freezer-microwave for their own bedroom (see below), but may not bring their own stand-alone microwave.

RiverView

Refrigerators: Students may bring their own minifridge (size not to exceed 4 cu. feet, or exterior dimensions of 36″ tall, 26″ wide, 26″ deep). Students may also rent a combination refrigerator-freezer-microwave (see below).

Microwaves: Students may not bring their own microwave to RiverView. However, residents may rent a combination fridge-freezer-microwave (see below) or use the microwave available in the lounge of each house. Students may also utilize the two community kitchens per floor, which include an full size refrigerator, oven, stove, and microwave.

Sandburg Hall

East Tower

Refrigerators: Full-size refrigerators are provided in each suite. Residents may also choose to rent a combination fridge-freezer-microwave (see below) or bring their own minifridge (size not to exceed 4 cu. feet, or exterior dimensions of 36″ tall, 26″ wide, 26″ deep) for their bedroom.

Microwaves: East Tower suites have a microwave provided as part of the standard kitchen appliances. Residents may also choose to rent a combination refrigerator-freezer-microwave (see below) to use in their own bedroom, but may not bring their own stand-alone microwave.

North/South/West Towers

Refrigerators: Students may rent a combination refrigerator-freezer-microwave (see below), or bring their own minifridge (size not to exceed 4 cu. feet, or exterior dimensions of 36″ tall, 26″ wide, 26″ deep).

Microwaves: Students may not bring their own microwave to Sandburg North/South/West. However, residents may rent a combination fridge-freezer-microwave (see below) or use the microwave available in the lounge of each house. Students may also check out the key to Sandburg’s community kitchens (located on the third floor of each tower), which include an oven, stove, and microwave.

Micro-Fridge Rental Option

Residents may choose to rent a combination fridge-freezer-microwave unit from mymicrofridge.com. Rentals cost $155 for the year. Orders placed by August 1st are guaranteed delivery (directly to your room) prior to the official start of Move-In. Learn more by viewing the video below.
