The Historic Preservation Institute HPI at the School of Architecture and Urban Planning SARUP announces the beginning of a new Visiting Scholar program. Stephen Kelley, former principle of Wiss Janney Elstner Associates in Chicago, is the HP Visiting Scholar for 2022 to 2023.

The Visiting Scholar program at the HPI is intended to bring late career professionals to SARUP to direct students in the new and important architectural design area of building reuse. As the architecture and engineering profession continues to elevate the importance of historic buildings and the fundamental environmental advantage of keeping and reusing, Steve’s deep knowledge of building history and technology will be an important contribution to the education of our students.

Steve Kelley is a registered architect and engineer, and a materials scientist specializing in the investigation, analysis, testing, and design of repairs for historic and contemporary buildings and structures. Steve has experience working and completing projects from around the world. His long career in the profession brings to SARUP advanced knowledge as well as a global reach that will connect students with professionals and organizations from around the world.
