The Historic Preservation Institute at SARUP, a leading research institute in the matter of building documentation and reuse, will now be equipped with a laser scanning research lab. The TechRender Company, based here in Milwaukee, has provided the institute with an arm scanner, important processing software, and funding. This support and these devices represent the most advanced equipment for building and detail documentation and reproduction. The Institute has been documenting buildings nationally along with sites in Italy, Japan, and Germany for years. The new equipment and software will help the institute to expand on these opportunities and educate students with cutting-edge documentation tools. This will also help elevate UWM SARUP’s national and international reputation. The effect of having this equipment will help enable the HPI to sponsor workshops, create publications, and generate discussion forums with researchers and students from around the world – both virtually and in person.
