Bio

Matthew Messner, AIA is an Architect, critic, and educator, licensed in Illinois, Wisconsin, and Missouri. Currently, he is an Adjunct Professor at both the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) and University of Wisconsin Milwaukee (UWM) School of Architecture and Urban Planning. He is the Founding Principal of the Chicago-based architecture firm DRUMLIN.
Formerly he has also worked in the offices of Chicago-based ParkFowler Plus (Formerly Brininstool+Lynch), Los Angeles-based Jimenez Lai/Bureau Spectacular, and Julian De Shmedt in Copenhagen, Denmark.

His design and writing have been published and featured in international galleries and publications, to include the Storefront for Art and Architecture, the Graham Foundation, the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Peoples Art House of Zagreb, Croatia, and the 2014 Venice Biennale of Architecture. As the Midwest Editor for the nationally published Architect’s Newspaper, he published nearly 500 articles. He holds a Masters of Architecture (M.Arch) and a Masters of Art in Design Criticism (MAD-Crit) from the University of Illinois Chicago (’14) and a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies with a Minor in Art and Architectural History and Criticism from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee School of Architecture and Urban Planning (’08). Matthew is a Descendant of the Oneida Tribe of Wisconsin and an Army Veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom (’09), Afghanistan.
