UWM alumni from planning and public administration partnered with APA-WI Southeast District for a panel on achieving diversity in planning–and whether diversity is a sufficient goal. Moderated by UWM faculty member Kirk Harris, the panelists included (from right to left) May Xiong (UWM Assistant Director for Graduate Diversity), Angela Brooks (Development Manager, Chicago Housing Authority and APA-IL Diversity Committee), Stephanie Hacker (Practice Area Leader at GRAEF and SARUP alumna), and Andre Brumfeld (Firmwide Director for Planning and Urban Design, Gensler, Chicago, and SARUP alumni). One of many learning moments: Planners can educate young people about planning by regularly including workshops with youth as part of any planning process.
