Arch 410 Architecture Design 1

This studio uses two major design projects and a team technical development project to explore basic building and site design issues. The first major project of the semester will involve the design of a public market for the Brady Street neighborhood that will include an outdoor market square, a project which focuses on the public realm and the use of basic building typologies. This project will be designed in brick and concrete block with precast and/or steel frame technology. The team development project involves the technical detailing of a masonry wall. A juried competition will select the best for full-scale construction in the commons. The last project is a design for a UWM residence hall, a project that has a focus on the design of the private realm. This project will also be required to be designed in masonry, but students will be able to choose widely among a variety of masonry cladding materials and systems.
