Golda Meir Library Conference Center

This week, from April 6-8, UWM’s Golda Meir Library Conference Center will be hosting GIS Days. This year’s theme is “Empowering Communities Through GIS”. This year, the event is going to be a hybrid of in-person and online sessions.

On April 6th and 7th, virtual sessions will be available via Zoom. Topics include beginner map building, incorporating GIS into elementary school curriculum, and storytelling with maps. There will also be virtual meetups for those interested in various GIS-related topics. Several short talks will be held in person as well as a student poster session on April 8th.

Eva Reid, data manager for the Washington, DC Department of Health, will be the keynote speaker for the in-person portion of the event festivities. After noticing she was often the only woman in the departments she worked for, Reid started Eva Reid Consulting, an organization designed to coach women considering GIS and other STEM fields. Additionally, she served as adjunct associate professor at Northern Virginia Community College, teaching courses in geospatial studies.

The event is free, but registration is required, and space is limited. For more information or to register, check out the event page here: https://uwm.edu/gis-council/gisday/gisday-program/
