Video Editing to Tell a Story
Explore the art of storytelling through post-production video editing. Learn how to create an emotional response in your audience by editing scenes, the main storyline, the supporting b-roll footage and more. Develop a deep understanding of the “why” behind impactful edits.
Whether you use your cell phone or professional equipment to create videos, you can drive a response in your audience through editing.
In this class, you can develop editing skills for marketing testimonials, short documentaries and personal projects. You will practice on existing short documentary footage and experiment with editing variations that produce different feelings and messages.
Everything you need for this course will be provided. DaVinci Resolve is the editing software used and is installed on the computers in our lab. The principles learned in this course are the same as those used to create commercial films. DaVinci software is free and can be downloaded on your work or home computers. There is a premium version that can be purchased.
The companion course in the series, Storytelling Films: How to Make an Emotional Connection With Your Audience Through Video, teaches you how to create the hook, the conflict, the journey and the jab to convey your message in video. It can be taken before or after Video Editing.
This course can be applied to the Creative Powerhouse Certificate.
