Why I like Chemistry

I Like Chemistry because it gives us insight into how the world works. I like seeing the relationship between a chemical’s structure and how it affects the chemical’s properties like reactivity and biological activity. Chemistry allows us to ease suffering by making medicine to treat illnesses. It feels like magic.

Why I chose the Chemistry and Biochemistry Program at UW-Milwaukee

I chose the Chemistry and Biochemistry Program at UW-Milwaukee because of the advancements made by the Milwaukee Institute for Drug Discovery. I also knew from my undergraduate studies here that the professors are very knowledgeable and understanding of their students.

Favorite things to do in Milwaukee

My favorite things to do in Milwaukee are enjoy the parks and the lakefront. Its great to live in a city where everything I need is within biking distance.

Research Goals

My research goal is to synthesis natural products and their analogues. So far, my focus has been on analogues of tryprostatin. Studies have shown that tryprostatin analogues are effective at reducing the growth of cancer cells. My goal is to create and analyze more analogues in order to create lead compounds that become FDA approved drugs.
