“We will look at calculus students’ beliefs about mathematics and how those beliefs impact the ways they reason about graphs of functions. We will also examine middle and high school mathematics teachers’ beliefs about proofs and how teachers evaluate student proofs. The evidence suggests that not only students’ and teachers’ beliefs impact their reasoning, but also that their beliefs are dynamic and depend on the specifics of the context they are working in.”
