Math Faculty Member, Assistant Professor Wei Wei was Awarded NSF Grant for Cyber Research

UW-Milwaukee Mathematical Sciences assistant professor Wei Wei and his collaborator Lingfeng Wang, associate professor from UWM College of Engineering and Applied Science, were recently awarded a $352,109 grant for their research from the National Science Foundation.

Dr. Wei will be researching cyber security risks to the country’s power grids as well as how to make it easier to insure against such threats.

“For the past few years, people have thought that cyber risk is uninsurable,” said Wei. “It’s uninsurable because we don’t know much about the nature of the risk.”

Through the use of this grant, Wei and Wang are anticipating a heightened outlook on cyber insurance, easing cautious insurers into the exploration of this new medium.
