UWM Science Bag – Microbes In Motion – Presented by: Professor Mark McBride

January 27, 2017 @ 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Fridays: January 6, 13, 20 and 27 at 8 p.m.
Sunday: January 15 at 2 p.m.
Bacteria have evolved elaborate machines to swim through liquids and to crawl over surfaces. Some construct tiny rotary motors that turn flagella. These function as propellers to allow them to swim. Others extend and retract adhesive filaments called pili to pull themselves over surfaces. Still others propel themselves with miniature tank treads. This show will explore their ingenious strategies, how they control their movements, and the experimental approaches used to study this miniature “traffic.”
Free and open to the public!

The UWM Physics Building, Room 137, is located at 1900 E. Kenwood Blvd. – the corner of Kenwood and N. Cramer St.).
