Torrey Lauer

Torrey Lauer has traveled throughout Western Europe, the Caribbean, Mexico and Costa Rica, but it was Madrid, Spain, that captivated him.  His short time studying abroad in Madrid further fueled his desire to learn more, which lead and culminated in an MA in Spanish from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. It was during his time as a Teaching Assistant at UWM for two-and-a-half years that he discovered his love for teaching Spanish.

Torrey owned a travel agency for 10 years before changing careers to become a Spanish teacher for Milwaukee Public Schools, where he gets to live his dream of teaching every day sharing and encouraging his students to learn Spanish and the cultures of the Spanish-speaking world through engaging and lively classroom activities. He creates a safe and inviting learning environment that allows students to really use the language, and apply it in the real world.

In addition to holding a Wisconsin Department of Instruction Spanish License #365, he has a Wisconsin DPI License #381 to teach Portuguese. In addition to Spanish and Portuguese, he enjoys learning other languages. He is currently learning French, brushing up on his German, and plans to start learning Italian and Irish.

When he is not teaching or learning new languages, he spends time with his family. He only speaks Spanish with his son and daughter.  They love to travel, read books and spend time with extended family.
