Ellenberg is the New York Times bestselling author of “How Not to Be Wrong: The Power of Mathematical Thinking” which connects economic and societal philosophies with basic mathematics and statistical principles. He is the the John D. MacArthur Professor of Mathematics at UW-Madison, well-known for his work in arithmetic algebraic geometry. He earned both his undergraduate and doctoral degrees in math from Harvard University.

“”Shape” reveals the geometry underneath some of the most important scientific, political, and philosophical problems we face. Geometry asks: Where are things? Which things are near each other? How can you get from one thing to another thing? Those are important questions. Geometry doesn’t just measure the world – it explains it. “Shape” shows us how.” ~ Jordan Ellenberg

Joining Ellenberg for the conversation is John Urschel, former guard with the Baltimore Ravens, who left the NFL to focus on his graduate studies in math. He holds an undergraduate degree and master’s degree in math from Penn State and is currently working on his PhD in math at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). His research focus is applied mathematics including numerical analysis, graph theory, and data science/machine learning. He is the author of “Mind and Matter: A Life in Math and Football.”
