The Power of No or History, Larraín Style

This presentation, a LACUSL Speakers Series, will explore some of the tactics that Pablo Larraín employs in his film No (2012) to reconstruct Chile’s recent past, specifically the monumentally significant defeat of the Pinochet regime. Along with his distinct inspired version of the 1988 events, Larraín’s tactics serve to apprehend how cinema can still function politically in the present day, albeit in a different guise from its previous revolutionary iterations in the continent.

The event will be presented by Gilberto Blasini on Tuesday, December 2, at 3:30 p.m., in the American Geographical Society Library (UWM Libraries, Third floor). For more information, visit: http://uwm.edu/lacusl/speakerseries/blasini.cfm.
