Certificates

Certificates are similar to minors in the number of credits required. The difference, though, is that courses for a certificate are taken from a variety of different departments and programs while still maintaining a focus around a particular theme. These certificates can be highly complementary to an English major.

Business of Media and Film Studies

The Certificate Program in Business of Media and Film Studies (BMFS) prepares students to be successful in their post-college careers by uniting the study of Business with the study of a popular, accessible, and pertinent area within the Humanities, Film Studies.

Celtic Studies

The Certificate Program in Celtic Studies provides for students in any field an integrated course of study across several curricular areas into the historical and contemporary cultures of the Irish, Scots, Welsh, Cornish, Manx, Breton, and Galician peoples.

Cultures and Communities

In the Cultures and Communities Certificate, students concentrate their GER classes in the areas of U.S. multicultural studies, global and international perspectives, and the community and cultural contexts of art, science, health, and technology.

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Studies

The LGBT Studies Certificate Program provides a curricular structure for undergraduates interested in the interdisciplinary study of same-sex relations, and human sexuality more generally, in past and present cultures.

Women’s & Gender Studies

In Women’s & Gender Studies courses, students learn to identify and assess gender-based assumptions and biases and to recognize their consequences on an individual, social, and cultural basis.
