In the waning days of second-wave feminism and its anti-pornography discourse, Bette Gordon directed her second feature, about a young woman, Christine, who takes a job as a ticket taker at a Times Square porno theater. There she becomes increasingly obsessed with a patron, and starts following him around dark and neon-lit New York. Gordon made the film for $80,000 after a decade of directing both avant-garde and narrative short films.
