Opening reception: Manufacturing Creativity

January 23 @ 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm

A new innovative exhibition at the UWM Union Art Gallery highlights design and branding in the upcoming exhibition Manufacturing Creativity: Reginald Baylor Studio. Opening January 21, 2020 and running through February 14, 2020, this show will present the diverse brands produced at the Reginald Baylor Studio presented through short films, t-shirts and shower curtains!

Venturing out of painting, Milwaukee-based artist Reginald Baylor has turned his focus to building brands. After realizing the time it took him to finish a painting that most people couldn’t afford, Baylor turned to the examples of business-minded artists like Takashi Murakami, Kehinde Wiley, and Andy Warhol for the inspiration to imagine manufacturing creativity. In 2018, in order to advance the creative industry, he relocated Reginald Baylor Studio to Walker’s Point where it now targets its energies on the design and development of brands. The RBS brands, along with Creative Director, Melissa Courtney, are currently contracting with a multitude of talented creative professionals to enhance Milwaukee’s creative industry movement.

The Brands on exhibit include:

· Poindexter + Prissy: a department store featuring high-end grit (what does this word mean here?)

· Signature Squares: a brand for competitive design

· Afronaut Mke: community-led superhero storytelling platform

· The Telegenic: a documentary film celebrating Milwaukee’s neighborhood festivals

· Walkers Point Thursday Show: a film documentary about people, places and things in Walker’s Point.

This exhibition and related programming are free and open to the public.
