The Milwaukee Area Hmong Writing Project (MAHWP), a symposium to give literary voice to Hmong Americans, is an intergenerational writing effort that empowers ordinary people to tell their own life stories in English and in Hmong.
The symposium is led by Dr. Chia Youyee Vang (Associate Professor of History at UWM), Dr. Aline Lo (Assistant Professor of English at Allegheny College), and Ching-In Chen (Poet, Community Activist, and doctoral candidate in English at UWM).
Anne O’Meara and UWM doctoral poets Soham Patel and Siwar Mansannat will lead writing workshops participants during the symposium. Participants will read from their own work in a public showcase, which is free and open to the public. The event is on Saturday, November 22, from 12:30 p.m. – 2 p.m., in N146 Lubar.
