The new season of the Milwaukee chapter of the Cinema Club starts on Sunday, September 24, 2017. For 10 and a half years, the Cinema Club has brought sneak previews and engaging discussions to the Milwaukee area. We meet at the Oriental Theater for stimulating films and discussions moderated by Professor Gilberto Blasini and Professor Jocelyn Szczepaniak-Gillece.
Just because summer is here doesn’t mean that poetry stops! If you’re in town, please join members of the UWM English Department for our summer events. First event will be May 25 and the last September 12, 2017. See the schedule.
The English Department’s Fall Welcome Reception will be held on Thursday, September 7 from 2:00-3:00 in Curtin 368. Food and light refreshments will be served. In the meantime, best wishes for the summer!
There will be a safe spaces for students to freely share their thoughts and stories, in the community about DACA and how rescindment affects all. Come to one or all as you are able and in need. UWM Professional Staff will be available.

The English Department presents novelist and poet Chris Abani, whose most recent novel, “The Secret History of Las Vegas,” was a finalist for an Edgar award.
Born in Nigeria, Abani was imprisoned three times for his subversive writing. He went into exile, and eventually settled in the United States. He currently serves as a board of trustees professor of English at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL.
