Pattern & Reduction Relief

Make unique multi-colored relief prints by carving into a linoleum block. This technique can also be used to create a personalized patterned paper!

Stencils With Visiting Artist Gouri Vemula

Date: Friday, April 14
Time: 3:00-4:30pm
Join visiting artist Gouri Vemula–traveling to us from India– as she teaches how to make a stencil by removing negative areas from a paper or plastic. You will then use it to produce multiple editions of your design, After the workshop head over to the Union Art Gallery upstairs for the opening of their show “India Inked” featuring both traditional and unconventional work by 18 Indian and Indian American artists including Vemula.

Photograms

Date: Friday, March 10
Time: 12:00-2:00pm
Make an image without a camera! Photograms use a process where you place objects directly over light-sensitive paper and shine light onto them to produce your image. Students are encouraged to bring their own unique objects to this workshop, such as leaves, cut up fruit, or jewelry in addition to the items we provide.

Basic Black & White Film Photography

 

Date: Mondays, April 3-24

Come learn the basics of black and white film photography by shooting with a 35mm camera, developing your film, and printing the images. Please note that students will need to provide their own camera to use in this class.

Felt Jewelry Workshop

Jewelry Basics

Acquaint yourself with metals basics like soldering, texturing, sawing and riveting. Each student will create three jewelry objects–a neck piece/pendant, a stacker ring and a custom ring you can design yourself!

Sewing 101: Basket Babies

Get an introduction to sewing on the sewing machine, including backstitch, stitch length, threading and more. You’ll learn all of this while sewing your very own unique functional basket to keep!

Trendy Stitching: Embroidery

With trendy stitching everywhere lately, eveyone is trying to get their hands on a hoop, needle and thread! Join us to do just that and learn the basics of hand-stitching, leaving with your own personalized embroidery piece and an extra hoop and needles to take with you so you can keep going after the class.

Card Weaving

Discover the magic of card weaving to create intricate patterns using an ancient weaving technique. Products such as bracelets, headbands, lanyardsm key chains and more can be made from card weavings. Students will leave knowing how to produce their own weavings and the supplies to continue weaving at home.

Fabric Dying 101

Date: Wednesdays, April 26-May 10
Time: 5:30-7:30pm
Become well versed in the ancient art of shibori folding and dyeing techniques, not to mention tie dye and discharge dying. Students will leave with their very own swatch book full of the unique dyed fabrics they’ve created over the course of this three day workshop.
