C. Moving Toward Authentic Engagement With Families

Equipping families to support learning can be enriched with hands-on-materials that guide families as they engage their young learners. This session will look at how directors and educators can embrace PARENTS as PARTNERS and empower them to support their child’s learning. We will discuss strategies directors can implement to support their staff. The field is rich with good practices—come share ideas and dig deeper to add some new budget-friendly interventions.

Bev Schumacher

Bev has worked in the education field for 40-plus years. Key roles have included serving as a parent involvement coordinator, classroom educator, consultant, author and starting a business. Her company, Learning Props, provides early learning materials to support school-readiness, parent engagement and second-language learning both for educational settings and home learning experiences. She has conducted workshops across the country. Her mission is to guide programs to employ effective strategies for working with parents and families. Bev and her husband live in Milwaukee and enjoy time with their children and grandchildren.
