Matthew Petering

Dr. Matthew Petering is an Associate Professor of Industrial & Manufacturing Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and owner of District Solutions LLC, a Milwaukee-based redistricting consulting company. He has more than 20 years of experience developing computer algorithms to optimize the performance of seaports, warehouses, universities and high-speed railway, car-sharing, and healthcare systems. In 2019, Petering began developing a redistricting algorithm, named FastMap, which enabled him to submit a map proposal and three amicus briefs to the Wisconsin Supreme Court in the case Clarke v. Wisconsin Elections Commission in 2023-24. He received a PhD in Industrial & Operations Engineering from the University of Michigan in 2007 and a BA in Mathematics from Washington University in Saint Louis in 1999.
