Jason Puskar

Jason Puskar is a Professor of English and the Associate Dean for Humanities at UWM. He works on late-19 and early 20th-century American literature and culture, with an emphasis on the history of science and technology. His first book, “Accident Society: Fiction, Collectivity and the Production of Chance” (Stanford, 2012), is literary history of the insurance industry around the start of the 20th century. His most recent book is “The Switch: An Off and On History of Digital Humans” (Minnesota, 2023), a cultural history of binary switching from the telegraph to the touchscreen. He also writes and teaches on the history of photography, economics and risk.
