Ben Merens

Ben is a communications consultant, leadership training specialist and speaker. He is president of Ben Merens Consulting (BMC).

In conjunction with his speaking work, Ben has authored two audiobooks, People Are Dying To Be Heard, and Uni-Tasking: 25 Tips For Better Listening. 

Teaming up with Milwaukee-based Brand XLerator, BMC is offering Storytelling Workshops where companies can learn what it means to STORY your business; and STORYCASTING opportunities, where companies can create their own podcasts (with Ben as your co-host) and target both internal and external audiences with their key messages in a regularly produced program.

Ben spent 21 years at Wisconsin Public Radio where he hosted and helped produce At Issue, a two-hour daily current events call-in program. Prior to At Issue, Ben hosted and produced a business talk show, Everybody’s Business at WPR for four years. Ben additionally served as the network’s election night anchor and as a primary WPR public outreach specialist. He also worked as a full-time reporter at WHLI Radio in Hempstead, NY.

His work in the public arena has led to award recognition from organizations including the Medical College of Wisconsin, the Washington D.C.-based Population Institute, and the Wisconsin Alzheimer’s Association. He additionally received an award for staff excellence from the University of Wisconsin-Extension.

Ben has been published by The Chicago Tribune, The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Crain’s Chicago Business and Talkers Magazine. His work has aired on NPR’s Morning Edition and PRI’s Marketplace.

Ben has taught at Hofstra University, Columbia College and Concordia University. He currently is on staff at Marquette University.

He holds a Master of Science degree in journalism from Northwestern University’s Medill School, and an undergraduate degree in public relations/communications from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Ben also has been certified as an in-state ‘Honoring Choices’ facilitator by the Wisconsin Medical Society.
