ARTHIST 760 Views more prints from UWM Art Collection

Visiting Assistant Professor Sarah Schaefer’s ARTHIST 760: Modern Print Culture class had the opportunity once again to view prints from the UWM Art Collection in the UWM Art History Gallery on Monday, September, 28, 2015. This week, students discussed reproductive prints, or prints that were reproductions of other works of art. Examples included engravings after Old Masters like Raphael and Leonardo (including a print by Luigi Calamatta of the Mona Lisa, which one scholar claims led to the popularity of the painting in the nineteenth century), as well as prints after works by modern artists such as Gustave Moreau, Jules Breton, and Frederic Leighton.
