Please join us Thursday, March 10th at 5PM for the graduate thesis exhibition opening of Off the Press: Exploring Reproducible War Art curated by Emily Hankins.
This will be our first graduate thesis exhibition since 2020! The exhibit will be open until May 12, 2020. As always, the Mathis Gallery is free and open to the public.
Off the Press is an exploration of reproducible art’s contributions to the historical construction and understanding of modern war. Spanning the mid-nineteenth century origins of photojournalism up to the present day, this exhibition highlights the intersections between news, history, technology, and printable artwork like engravings, posters, and artists’ books. The examples on display come from multiple contexts and points of view, representing some of the complex and varied responses to war that have come from reproducible art media.
