Molly McCourt, a graduate student in the English/Film Studies Department and a teaching assistant for ARTHIST/FILMSTD 205: History of Film I: Development of an Art, presented at the Film and History Conference held in Madison, Wisconsin. In McCourt’s presentation, “A Lineage of Sociopaths: The Antiheroics of American Psycho and 21st Century Television,” she argues that the yoking of of violence against women and grotesque comedy not only prevents a feminist reading of American Psycho, but also suggests Patrick Bateman as a predecessor to other entertaining sociopaths of 21st century serial television. Molly McCourt was also featured in the UWM College of Letters & Science In-Focus November 2014 newsletter.
