November 7, 2016  |  News & Events, Provost's Updates

Good morning, colleagues. Here is this week’s update from Academic Affairs.

Kudos

– Tanya Joosten, Academic Affairs, has been invited to participate in a White House Symposium on Higher Education Innovation that Reduces Costs and Strengthens Quality. Exciting news, Tanya!

– UWM won four CASE regional awards: 2 golds and a bronze for Development and Alumni Relations, and a silver for University Relations. The awards recognize outstanding achievement in the concept and execution of university advancement programs and communications. Congratulations to all!

The Week

The Chancellor’s Cabinet meets and will also participate in the “Serving Those Who Serve” Brunch for student veterans in honor and recognition of Veterans Day. I’m also attending a meeting on how the Greater Milwaukee Committee and the Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce might work with UWM and other universities to serve as portals for regional talent.

Tuesday

A day of meetings: UC Chair John Reisel, Kim Litwack, CEMAT Co-sponsors, Tom Lipinski, plus the University Committee and the Academic Staff Senate. Remember to vote!

Wednesday

I have meetings with Pat Borger, Paula Rhyner, the Chancellor, and a UW System Provost meeting in Madison. I have not received a final agenda for this meeting. We will also know who the next President will be.

Thursday

My most important meeting for the day is with Health School/College Deans and Chairs to discuss further collaboration. There are also a number of administrative meetings that I will attend.

Other

The Irish national rugby team made history over the weekend here in Chicago (more than 63,000 spectators) when they beat the mighty All Black for the first time ever. This was a victory 111 years in the making – these two sides started playing one another in 1905. This also brings to an end the All Black’s record 18-match winning streak.

Take care,
