Spotlight: Professor of Atmospheric Sciences, Jon Kahl

We return to the #CLACSCommunity series with UWM Professor of Atmospheric Science, Jonathan Kahl! Kahl teaches general courses on meteorology and atmospheric thermodynamics, and specialized courses on air pollution and turbulence. His research is focused on the interaction between air pollution and meteorology. This includes working with student researchers to test the combined air quality & heat/humidity index for predicting mortality as well as evaluating meteorological influences on acid rain in Mexico.“I began working with Mexico air quality issues almost accidentally about 20 years ago and haven’t stopped… The work is fascinating and the people are wonderful.”Each year Professor Kahl leads the UWinteriM study abroad “Mexico: Air Pollution and Ancient Cultures.” The program allows UWM students to study the effects of air pollution on Mexico’s archaeological cultural heritage sites.
