Ireland and Latin America
You might be surprised to learn that there is a long history between Ireland and Latin America. Dr. Edmundo Murry’s article “Ireland and Latin America: a Cultural History” can be an introduction piece to the subject. The Library of Congress has an article on the Irish-American battalion that fought for Mexico in the Mexican-American war.
The Society for Irish Latin American Studies (SILAS) has journals going back to 2003, Archives of Irish Settlement, an exhibition in both English and Spanish, and links for related organizations. The Government of Ireland’s Department of Foreign Affairs has a piece called, “Global Ireland: Ireland’s Strategy for Latin America and the Caribbean to 2025”, found here.
Finally, “Paisanos: The Irish and the Liberation of Latin America” is a book that may be of interest.
