November 21, 2016  |  News & Events, Provost's Updates

Good morning, colleagues. Here is this week’s update from Academic Affairs – and may you all have a safe and happy Thanksgiving!

Kudos

– Over the last two years, WUWM Radio has collaborated with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, WNOV-AM, 371 Productions, and the Wisconsin Center for Investigative Journalism to explore the issue of gun violence in our area. In more than 100 reports, producers put a face/voice to the stories of tragedy and the impact it has on young lives. WUWM’s Dave Edwards and Michelle Maternowski recently made a presentation of the project to several hundred public radio managers at a conference in Pittsburgh. Here is the powerful video they shared: https://vimeo.com/18609840

– The most recent issue of the journal Polish American Studies – the journal of the Polish American Historical Association – is largely composed of articles and reminiscences regarding our late colleague, Prof (Emeritus) Victor Greene, History, and his contributions to labor, ethnic, and immigration history.

– Jonathan Bruce, a UWM graduate with a master’s degree in history, an instructor in the Comparative Ethnic Studies program, and tutor for the Writing Center, contributed to an upcoming exhibit in Appleton’s History Museum at the Castle. The exhibit, Asylum: Out of the Shadows, examines mental health at the end of the 19th/beginning of the 20th century using the Outagamie Asylum as a case study.
