August 1, 2016  |  News & Events, Provost's Updates

Good morning, Colleagues. Here are this week’s updates from Academic Affairs.

Roberto Hernandez Center Leadership
I am very pleased to announce that Alberto Maldonado, currently the Assistant Director of Admissions, will be the interim Director of the Roberto Hernandez Center. Alberto’s experience in student recruitment, particularly in Latino/a high schools, his knowledge of the community, and his collaborative leadership style will be an asset to the work of this important center.

Kudos

– Congratulations to the Lubar School of Business on earning specialized accounting accreditation from AACSB International for its array of undergraduate and graduate accounting programs!

– Our UWM National Student Speech, Language, Hearing Association (NSSLHA) Chapter 2016 was awarded Gold Standing, the highest possible honor given by the National NSSLHA Organization, based on their outstanding performance in fundraising, community service, advocacy, career awareness, and member recruitment. The UWM chapter is one of only 35 chapters rated at this level out of 319 chapters nationwide. Well done!

– Heather Salvo, Communication Sciences and Disorders Graduate Student, is being nationally recognized as a 2016 NSSLHA Honors Recipient at the national convention in Philadelphia in November. This award is based on scholastic achievement, service to the academic unit, professional conduct, and service to NSSLHA. Congratulations, Heather!

– The School of Education has received a $2.4M award from the National Science Foundation Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program for the Milwaukee Master Teacher Partnership (MMTP), an innovative five-year professional development project for master teachers in MPS high school mathematics and science classrooms. The project will launch in late August 2016, and be directed by PI Mike Steele (Curriculum and Instruction), co-PIs Craig Berg (Curriculum and Instruction) and Anja Blecking (Chemistry), and senior staff Barbara Bales (Curriculum and Instruction). Congratulations! For more information, visit uwm.edu/mmtp.
