Good Morning, Colleagues. I hope you had a relaxing break. Here are this week’s updates from Academic Affairs.

The Week

Tuesday

I have a meeting with the Chancellor and VC Robin Van Harpen, the Chancellor’s Cabinet meets, and I have monthly meetings with Deans Bob Greenstreet and Marija Gajdardziska-Josifovska. I have a meeting on Charter Schools and the Chancellor and I are meeting with Distinguished Professors.

Wednesday

I have a weekly meeting with the Chancellor, a CEMAT sponsors meeting, and a planning meeting for the June Board of Regents meeting. In the afternoon, I have monthly meetings with Deans Rodney Swain and Ron Perez, plus a meeting with School of Continuing Education’s Paula Rhyner. I also have a meeting with Secretary of the University Trudy Turner.

Thursday

I’m attending the L&S advisors’ meeting and the Academic Planning and Budget Committee meeting. There is a campus budget planning committee meeting, and I have monthly meetings with Deans Sally Lundeen and Scott Emmons. I’m also attending retirement celebrations for Sarine Schmidt (Secretary of the University’s Office; Fireside Lounge, 2:30-4:30 p.m.) and Bridgett Kemp (Academic Affairs; Regents Room, 4-6 p.m.).

Friday

I have several School of Education meetings in the morning, plus meetings on the Student Success Collaborative, and the Lubar Center for Entrepreneurship. I’m also attending the Lubar School of Business’s 50th Anniversary Gala in the evening.

From the Sam & Helen Stahl Center for Jewish Studies

Mohammed Dajani, Weston Fellow at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, will give a talk entitled, “The Enemy is Fear: A Palestinian Perspective on Reconciliation in Midst of Conflict,” on June 1 at 7 p.m. at the UWM Music Recital Hall (MUS 175). A post-talk discussion will be moderated by Doug Savage, Assistant Director of UWM’s Institute of World Affairs. Event is free and open to the public.

PAWD Committee (Panther Academic Welcome Day)

The Committee is looking for volunteers to facilitate sessions for Panther Academic Welcome Day (PAWD) 2016 on Friday, September 2. To best meet the needs of this campus-wide program, we have combined facilitator recruitment efforts allowing for volunteers to sign up for either Mission Possible or Common Read. Please take some time to consider facilitating Mission Possible or Common Read this year. More information and sign-up.

Fall Welcome

Show your Panther Pride and volunteer for Fall Welcome 2016. The success of Fall Welcome events and University Housing Move-In greatly relies on staff and faculty volunteers. I encourage you to sign up for one move-in shift and one Fall Welcome event shift.

University Challenge 2016

Register now for the 5th annual Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon University Challenge that takes place on Sunday, October 2. Remember to select the UWM team when registering. Students can request a link from Rachael Daniel (rdaniel@uwm.edu) to receive the discounted entry fee.

To facilitate communication and collaboration within the UW System, it is now possible to schedule events with Office 365 calendar users at other select UW System institutions through the “calendar federation.”
