December 14, 2015  |  News & Events, Provost's Updates

Good morning, colleagues. Here are this week’s updates from Academic Affairs.

Kudos

Dietmar Wolfram, SOIS, who was elected Vice-president/President-elect of the Association for Library and Information Science Education (ALISE). His term starts next month and he looks forward to encouraging greater inclusion of undergraduate and graduate degree programs in allied information areas, as well as international LIS programs, during his presidential year in 2017. Congratulations, Dietmar!

– Jeffrey Sommers, Africology, whose article, “A New Approach to U.S.-Russia Relations Is Needed,” was published in the New York Times. Excellent job, Jeff!

To the Panthers, who defeated the Badgers last Wednesday in a men’s basketball game. This ends Madison’s 22 years of domination…Go Panthers!

– Paul Lyman, Physics, who fielded a question from a local news station and analyzed Aaron Rodger’s Hail Mary pass that won the December 3 game against the Lions. Way to go, Paul!

The Week

My morning is filled with standing meetings, including Robin Van Harpen, SOIS Dean Tom Lipinski, HBSSW Dean Stojkovic, and Mark Harris. There is also a deep dive meeting of the Chancellor’s Cabinet. In the afternoon, there is a CEMAT meeting and the agenda includes updates from the tuition-setting task force, Strategic Enrollment Management planning, and the advising work group, as well as review of retention information. I’ll stop by the Annual Campus Holiday Gathering in the Union Ballroom (see below) and attend a Reception at the Chancellor’s residence. In the evening, I will be attending the Commencement Honors Ceremony.

A very busy day with meetings with direct reports, a quarterly Development meeting, the Associate Deans meeting, and my bi-weekly meeting with School of Education Dean Shoho. The bi-annual planning and budget meetings with schools/colleges continue and we meet with SOIS leadership Wednesday afternoon.

I start the day with the APBC meeting. In the afternoon, we have the planning and budget meeting with Lubar leadership, Faculty Senate, and a UW-System Provost videoconference. You are welcome to join!
