Kudos
Donna Weir (Nursing) won the 2021 Wisconsin Academic Advising Association (WACADA) Outstanding Achievement Award, which recognizes outstanding achievement and longevity in advising. Congratulations, Donna!
Katie Nack (Nursing) won the 2021 WACADA Advising Profession Impact Award. This award was designed to recognize faculty or full-time advisors who have five or fewer years of experience in advising and have made significant impact in their unit, on campus, or in the field of advising. Well done, Katie!
Kelly Kohlmetz (Mathematical Sciences) is a recipient of the Carnegie Math Pathways Hero Award. The award highlighted how her “dedication has made a difference to the success of the Carnegie Math Pathways, and most importantly to the success of tens of thousands of students, who are benefitting from a more empowering and equitable math learning experience. This is a great honor, Kelly, and congratulations!

The Week
Monday
I start the week with my standing meeting with Robin Van Harpen, followed by a meeting with the Academic Staff Committee, the Chancellor’s Executive Cabinet, where we will participate in a listening session on the Vice Chancellor for Development and Alumni Relations search, and my weekly staff meeting.
Tuesday
In the morning, I have the Coronavirus Management Team (CMT) Leadership meeting and my one-on-one with Nancy Nelson. In the afternoon, I have a meeting with the University Committee and a meeting regarding enrollment targets for 2022-23.
Wednesday
Today, I have my monthly meeting with Jonathan Hanes and my standing meeting with Dave Clark, Kay Eilers, Michelle Johnson, and Keri Duce. Then, Kay and I will meet to review the finalists for the Executive Director of Recruitment, Marketing, and Admissions position. I have my one-on-one with Michael Doylen, my monthly meeting with Tina Freiburger and Hope Longwell-Grice, the monthly Integrated Support Services Executive Sponsors update, and my standing meeting with Mark Harris and Dietmar Wolfram.
Thursday
In the morning, I have another CMT Leadership meeting, my standing meeting with Peter Sands, and my one-on-one with Joely Urdan. In the afternoon, I have a meeting with Principal Yalonda Graham regarding the opening of Hartford University School, my standing meeting with Phyllis King, a meeting with Robin Van Harpen regarding fundraising for capital projects, and my bi-weekly meeting with Mark Harris.
Friday
Today, I’ll be in Madison for the annual UW System Provosts Retreat, as well as the introductory and charge meeting for the UW System Presidential search and screen committee.

Contribute to UNITE
Please submit your contributions for UNITE by August 23. This year, we will again be delivering doorhangers to off-campus addresses with a QR code directing students to visit the UNITE website. You can submit your contribution by filling out the form at the bottom of the event page.
Family Weekend
Please submit an event for Family Weekend 2021, planned for October 9. Consider hosting an event this year. Campus units, groups, and student organizations are encouraged to submit an event. Events can be on or off campus, virtual or in-person. Events do not need to be fully fleshed out at the time of submission. Please submit events by August 26. Fall Distinguished Lecture Series
The Student Union is excited to bring Dr. Ibram X. Kendi to UWM on September 21 at 7 p.m. in the Union Ballroom for our Fall Distinguished Lecture Series event. Dr. Kendi, author of “How to Be an Antiracist” and other books, is one of America’s foremost historians and leading antiracist scholars. At UWM, he will participate in a conversation on antiracism with UWM’s Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer, Dr. Chia Youyee Vang.
