LGBT+ 101 Safe Space Workshop

A professional development workshop that encourages UWM faculty, staff and student leaders to attain foundational knowledge of LGBT+ communities and identities. Participants will learn about:
- Lexicon, vocabular, and basic terminology
- Common LGBT+ terms and identities
- The gender binary and the gender and sexuality spectrum
- Components of sexuality and gender identity
- Coming out models, best practices for being affirming and supportive when someone comes out to you
- Ways to dispel myths, misconceptions, and avoid reinforcing negative stereotypes
- On-campus and community resources
This section is treated as a “basics” component and it is intended to prepare new participants and members of the safe space program for the second module.
