Full Admission with EAP placement hold

Full admission with EAP placement hold is for international students who have been admitted to an academic degree program at UWM but may still need to complete some required English for Academic Purposes (EAP) coursework because of IEP recommendation or TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo score. A student admitted with this status cannot carry more than 16 credits overall.

Students can receive Full admission with EAP placement hold by receiving IEP recommendation OR by submitting a TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo score that meets English Proficiency requirements. In other words, a student who successfully completes (achieves all the outcomes) the B1 level in the core courses for a semester from our IEP can go directly into a UWM academic program WITHOUT a TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo score.  However, if you plan on taking the TOEFL,  IELTS or Duolingo to apply for academic study at UWM, see the English proficiency requirements for academic admission here.

Students are placed into their required EAP courses using their TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo scores.  These scores will determine whether students will be required to take one, two or three semesters of EAP coursework in addition to their other courses. **Please note that ALL your EAP courses carry credit towards a degree, and you must receive a C or higher in all EAP coursework to pass out of the class.
