Dual Admission

Dual admission is for graduate students that have been admitted to an academic program with English deficiency. Students admitted with dual admission are required to enroll in four credits in the English Language Academy English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Program. Students admitted with dual admission are also able to enroll in six academic credits in their degree program. Students with dual admission CANNOT take more than 10 credits total.

As a student with dual admission, you must demonstrate full English language proficiency within three semesters of initial enrollment at UWM by one of the following:

    • submitting a TOEFL, IELTS, Duolingo, or CAE/CPE score by the first day of their admitted semester that meets the score range (or higher score if required for a specific degree program) for full admission; or,
    • Achieving a CEFR level of C1 (or higher level if required for a specific degree program) through assessment of a portfolio that includes the following:
      • a grade of B or better in EAP 420 and passing the impromptu writing sample; or,
      • a grade of B or better in EAP 435 and passing a speaking test.
