English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Courses

EAP Courses are for U.S residents and international students whose 1st languages are not English and who received the following admission types: foundation admission for undergraduates, dual admission for graduates, and full admission as an undergraduate or a graduate into UWM.

Summer Language and Culture Program

The SLAC program is a short-term program for students looking to improve their English skills and their cultural competency. This program provides many opportunities for students to experience hands-on learning in the Milwaukee community and to enjoy the Milwaukee summer.

MITAA

The Milwaukee International Teaching Assistant Assessment (MITAA) is required for international teaching assistants who receive an English proficiency score below the scores listed below. 

  • 24 or better on the Speaking section of the internet-Based TOEFL (iBT) or
  • 7.0 or better on the Speaking section of the IELTS
  • 185 or better on the Speaking section of the Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) or the Cambridge English: Proficiency (CPE)
  • 125 or better on the Conversation and Production sections of the Duolingo English Test
