New students at ice cream social

As an international student, participating in New Student Orientation is required and it provides opportunities to learn about UW-Milwaukee and become familiar with your new network of support.

Your Orientation experience consists of two steps:

  1. Before you arrive in the U.S., register for the mandatory online New Student Orientation for International Students course.

Register here. Once registered, you’ll receive a confirmation email with further instructions on how to complete the course. You MUST complete step 1 to register for classes for the Fall. Therefore, please register for the Online New Student Orientation at your earliest convenience.

  2. After you have arrived in the U.S., complete F-1/J-1 Student Orientation, an online course in Canvas.

After you have arrived in the U.S. and completed arrival check-in, you will receive access to F-1/J-1 Student Orientation, an online course in Canvas. You must complete the course before September 16, 2024.

In addition, all new undergraduate students at UWM will participate in the Panther Transition Experience, which will be held during the week of August 26, 2024. There will be a required session for international students on August 29. More details about this in-person event will be shared soon.

J-1 Exchange Students: J-1 Exchange Students should email Sue Conway (conways@uwm.edu) for information on your J-1 Exchange Student Orientation.

Conditional Admission Students: Students with Conditional Admission must attend orientation in the UWM Intensive English Program. Students will attend an orientation at the Center for International Education when their status changes to regular admission. Email el-academy@uwm.edu with any questions.
