Dear Colleagues,

The University Police and Dean of Students continue to provide valuable classroom safety training to faculty and instructional staff.  They received feedback that some staff would appreciate a few additional options on the training schedule.  Therefore, they requested I share with you that they have added April 23rd and May 2nd to the list and those trainings will be from 12:30 – 2:00 p.m.  The location will still be in the Flicks, which is located in Sandburg West Residence Hall.  You may still sign up at https://uwm.edu/safetytraining/.

The Police and Dean of Students thank you for your continued interest and attendance at these important trainings.

Take care,
Johannes

Colleagues,

Instructor-focused classroom and campus safety training is once again under way this semester, with the goal of reaching 100 percent of UWM’s faculty and instructional staff. This training will help ensure that we are prepared to respond to situations that could cause students to feel unsafe. To date, over 300 instructors and support staff have received training. If you have not attended a training session (or if you signed up to attend one but had to miss the session), please make it a priority this semester.

There are five sessions offered over the month of April. Co-developed by the Dean of Students Office and the UWM Police Department, the training has been well received by participants.

The focus is on disruptive students, students in crisis and what to do in case of a violent incident.  The dates of the training will be 4/4 (10 a.m.), 4/9 (10 a.m.), 4/11 (2 p.m.), 4/18 (10 a.m.) and 4/26 (10 a.m.).  All of the training will take place in Flicks, located in Sandburg Hall.  In order to register for the training please visit https://uwm.edu/safetytraining.

Thank you for participating in this important and essential campus training program.

Take care,
Johannes
