Gorfinkel speaks at the University of Chicago

On Friday April 17th, Assistant Professor Elena Gorfinkel gave a keynote address, “Walking Still” at the University of Chicago Cinema and Media Studies Graduate Student Conference, “Performing Bodies: Gesture Affect and Embodiment On Screen.” Professor Gorfinkel’s talk concerned Taiwanese filmmaker Tsai Ming Liang’s Walker series, examining the significance of the figuration of walking to cinema history, to contemporary slow cinema practices and to theories of filmic temporality, materiality and corporeality. Gorfinkel also participated in a roundtable on bodies and performance that closed the conference on April 18th with University of Chicago Professors Lauren Berlant and Yuri Tsivian.
