June 12, 2017  |  News & Events, Provost's Updates

Good morning, colleagues. Here is this week’s brief update from Academic Affairs.

Reminder: Title IX Training

If you have not completed your Title IX training, please do so as soon as possible. Check your email for a message with the subject line “University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Title IX Course Status Reminder.” All UW employees are required to complete this training by June 30.

L&S Dean Search and School of Continuing Education

Unfortunately, we were unable to successfully hire a dean and the search will remain open. I will communicate more details regarding the search at a later stage. I will also have follow-up communication with L&S this week regarding the next steps during this interim period. I also hope to finalize the search for the Director of the School of Continuing Education this week.

From Student Affairs: Interim Director of Undergraduate Admissions Named

Dani Rollins, Chief Enrollment Officer and Director of Undergraduate Admissions for UWM, has resigned her position to assume a similar position at the University of Arizona. Her last day was Friday, June 9. We want to thank Dani for what she accomplished in her brief time with us and wish her well.

We’re excited to announce that Katie Miota, Assistant Director of the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, has agreed to serve as the Interim Director of Undergraduate Admissions for UWM. Katie will assume this role on June 12. Katie has helped us out previously in this Interim role and did an outstanding job. We are lucky that she has agreed to serve again and appreciate her willingness to do so.

Kudos

– The Center for 21st Century Studies helped coordinate and run the biennial Illinois Advanced Judicial Academy for four days last week, an academy sponsored by the Illinois Supreme Court in Springfield, IL. Kennan Ferguson, C21’s Director, provided an overview of the week, taught the Federalist Papers, discussed Critical Legal Studies, and led daily writing exercises for over 100 state judges, including Supreme Court justices. Well done, Kennan and C21!

– Simone Conceição, Administrative Leadership, and Anita Samuel, Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, are now the co-Editors-in-Chief of eLearn Magazine and will serve a three-year term beginning July 1, 2017. Congratulations, Simone and Anita!
