June 19, 2017  |  News & Events, Provost's Updates

Good afternoon, colleagues. Here is this week’s update from Academic Affairs.

Continuing Education Announcement

I am pleased to announce that Nancy Nelson has been appointed as Provost’s Deputy for Continuing Education, starting on July 1.  Nancy has been with UWM since 1998. She started in the Department of Occupational Therapy (now Occupational Science & Technology), and has served as Assistant Dean for the College of Health Sciences Outreach Office since 2009. She earned her PhD in Adult Education, Administrative Leadership at UW-Milwaukee.   I’m delighted to welcome Nancy to this new role and I’m looking forward to working with her.

Kudos

– Diane Reddy, Psychology and Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, received the 2017 New Media Consortium Henderson Prize, recognizing exemplary ongoing passion for teaching, learning, and innovation. Congratulations, Diane!

– Gretchen Schuttey, Military and Veterans Resource Center, was named Top Counselor in the U.S. for the VetSUCCESS on Campus program. Well done, Gretchen! What a fitting capstone to your 30 years with the VA.

– Donn Haglund, Professor Emeritus, will receive this year’s Lowell Thomas Award, the Explorers Club’s highest honor. Donn is in good company with the likes of Carl Sagan, Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin, Jr., Jean-Michel Cousteau, Sir Edmund P. Hillary, and Sir David Attenborough. Congratulations, Donn!
