Guidance on Abstract Submission | Mentor of the Year Nomination
You can present your work at the Symposium in a variety of formats:
Poster Presentation: Posters should be a maximum of 44″ X 36″. Presenters should be available to discuss their posters 1:30-3:30 p.m. on May 1. Posters will be attached to the display boards using binder clips that will be provided. Please use the UWM poster template provided. If you have not already prepared a poster for another event (e.g., a departmental showcase or NCUR), please submit your poster as a .ppt or .pdf file to Tamara Long at firstname.lastname@example.org by April 20th and we will notify you when your poster is ready for pick up.
Oral Presentation: Presentations are scheduled for a maximum of 20 minutes, including a 5-minute question-and-answer period, and will be scheduled between 12-1:40 p.m. Sessions will be moderated and the time limit enforced. Computers attached to digital projectors will be equipped with USB ports for flash drives (it is best to have multiple copies of your presentation saved in the cloud and on physical media). All rooms will be equipped with a computer, projector, and screen. If additional equipment, including audio, is needed, please indicate this when you submit your abstract.
Performing Art: Original performances can include literary readings, theater, music, or dance. Performances can also be a researched interpretation based on an existing work. Performances may be solo or ensemble. A maximum of 20 minutes is allotted for each performance, including a question-and-answer period. These will be scheduled between 12-1:40 p.m. in the Union Cinema, pending availability. If additional equipment or space is needed, please indicate this when you submit your abstract.
Visual Art: All forms of visual art, including original painting, sculpture, photography, prints, textile arts, drawings, pottery, metal, etc., will be considered for acceptance as gallery exhibits. When registering and submitting your abstract, please indicate special equipment and space needs (e.g., required space in square feet, required table space, or number of easels). Exhibit set-up will be from 11:00 to 12:00 p.m. on May 1. Presenters will be expected to be available to discuss their exhibit between 1:30-3:30 p.m.
