Finding and Reading Research Articles

A discussion about using our wealth of library resources to stay up to date on the most recent research in your areas of interest!  Knowing the context of your research question and the research it builds on can make you a more knowledgeable and effective undergraduate researcher. We will also talk about strategies for reading research articles, and practice reading one together.

Graduate School Considerations

A discussion about what you can be doing now to ensure you are a competitive candidate for graduate or professional programs. We will also discuss the components of the application process, and how you can begin the process of searching for a graduate program that will help you accomplish your research & career goals.

Writing an Effective Personal Statement

Gain knowledge on assembling a compelling personal statement for applying for graduate school, scholarships or fellowships! We will read sample essays, share freewriting prompts, and brainstorm elements for representing yourself successfully in an essay.

How to Write a Research Abstract

In this workshop we will read sample research abstracts, talk about the elements of a successful abstract, and to start writing your own to submit to the UWM Undergraduate Research Symposium or other presentation opportunities.

Off Campus Summer Research Opportunities

We will discuss off campus summer research opportunities like NSF Research Experiences for Undergraduates as well as tips on applying.

Conference Poster Creation

Come learn the nuts and bolts of putting together a conference poster using PowerPoint. A blank template and poster samples will be shared.
