2019 Biological Sciences Award Winners Announced

We are pleased to announce the results of the 2019 Biological and Environmental Sciences Scholarship Competition! The Awards committee found this year’s pool of applicants extremely competitive, and we are so happy to have such high caliber students as members of our department. Join us in celebrating the awardees’ accomplishments at the 2019 Biological Sciences Awards Ceremony, Friday, April 19, 2019 in the Zelazo Center Room 250 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm, with refreshments starting at 1:00pm. Congratulations again to this year’s awardees!

Ruth I. Walker Memorial Awards:
Tuition scholarships to continuing undergraduates majoring
in Biological Sciences or Environmental Sciences.

in Conservation or Environmental Studies.

Raymond E. Hatcher Memorial Scholarship:
• Undergraduate (Jr. standing or above) and graduate students
conducting research are eligible, with a preference (but not
limited) to those studying Botany.

in a field of research related to large lakes or oceans, with a
preference for graduate students and the study of Lake
Michigan and its watershed, or a related research area are

• Undergraduate (Jr. standing or above) and graduate students
in Biological Sciences with preference given to students
actively engaged in thesis research in Immunology and
Systematics.

• Undergraduate (Jr. standing or above) and graduate students
in Biological Sciences. Minimum GPA = 3.25.

Louise Neitge Mather Scholarship:
• Awarded to a female graduate student, unless no female
candidates are otherwise qualified, who is a Wisconsin
resident as demonstrated by having graduated from a high
school in the state of Wisconsin, is in need of financial
assistance to continue studies at UWM, is a returning graduate
student in good standing and is actively engaged in
coursework or research and making progress toward degree
completion.

Robert Costello Botany Scholarship:
• Undergraduate students (Jr. standing or above) conducting
research in Botany are eligible.

Nathaniel Tennies

Peter J. Salamun Scholarship:
• Undergraduate (Jr. standing or above) or graduate students in
Biological Sciences studying plant sciences. Minimum GPA
= 3.25.
